Chiropractic During Pregnancy

One of the most important time to receive chiropractic care is during a woman’s pregnancy.  The many changes that occur in a woman’s body during pregnancy are remarkable; everything from the posture, the growing abdomen, to the gait changes throughout pregnancy.  However, the most significant changes cannot be seen:  everything from the hormonal changes, to the growth of the fetus.  The nervous system coordinates all of the hormonal changes and the fetal growth.  Therefore, a properly functioning nervous system is more important than ever.

What consists of the nervous system?  The nervous system is the brain, the spinal cord and the peripheral nerves that branch out from the spinal cord.  These nerves control and coordinate every single function of a woman and her growing fetus.

Chiropractic actually should be done to prepare a woman’s body before conception to make sure that proper alignment is achieved.  A recent study finds that chiropractic care promotes a more regular menstrual cycle and uterine function.  Recent studies have also indicated that chiropractic care resulted in easier and shorter delivery.  Additional studies indicated that women receiving chiropractic care resulted in 50% reduction in the use of analgesic, and moreover they were less likely to have low back pain.

At the Active Family Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, we modify our technique to accommodate the patient throughout the entire pregnancy to ensure the most comfortable experience possible.
